It attracts insects by the nectar inside the trap and it will quickly close the trap when the hairs are touched.
This plant is sensitive and can be tricky to maintain, please follow the care tips to keep it healthy.
Other names: Carnivorous, Dionaea muscipula.
Venus Flytraps attract their prey using sweet nectar. Touch a trigger hair twice, or two hairs in quick succession, and an electric charge close the trap, its interlocking teeth forming a cage. The insect's continued struggles will cause the trap to seal, at which point digestive enzymes will dissolve the victim's soft tissues. The trap reabsorbs this nutritious soup, and after about a week it will reopen to attract new visitors.
Venus Flytraps need high humidity and direct sunlight (or high-powered indoor light) for healthy growth. It's recommended to use filtered, distilled, or rainwater and let it sit in 1 CM of water, avoiding watering it from the top. You can feed it with dead or live insects by placing them into 1 trap only, but feed it only once you’ve taken care of all of its other growing requirements. It will close the trap when it feels something on the small hairs. Avoid triggering the trap if there's no feeding because it will waste its energy.
